Arsenal’s best starting XI for the 2022/23 Premier League campaign with three summer transfers

Mikel Arteta hopes his Arsenal side can carry their momentum from this season into the next campaign. The Gunners have impressed for most of the season, putting themselves in charge for a top four finish this season.

If he wants to finish fourth, the Spaniard will have brought the team back to the Champions League after a five-year absence from Europe’s top competition. This will mean the squad will need to be completed, if they hope to continue next season.

Squad depth in particular has been a concern, with a number of players also set to leave the club on free transfers. That said, here’s a look at some potential signings this summer and how the team will line up with them.

Alexander Isak

If there’s one area the club will be desperate to strengthen this summer, it’s at forward level, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to leave the club as free agents. That would leave Arteta without a recognized first-team centre-forward, underlining the need to sign one.

Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak has been linked with a move to the Emirates and is a plausible option for next season, due to his release clause. The Swedish international has an eye for goal as well as good technique for his height, but struggles in the air.

He could be the one to start next season, with players around him on the front line capable of creating plenty of chances.

Youri Tielemans

Another player linked with a move to Arsenal is Leicester’s Youri Tielemans. The box-to-box midfielder could suit the role currently occupied by Granit Xhaka further up the pitch and influence attacks.

The 24-year-old also has an eye for goal which could be more than helpful in the future. His current contract expires in 2023 and a showdown with the Foxes could open up the possibility of a move.

Moussa Diaby

While this isn’t a position the Gunners necessarily need to strengthen in, having quality deep in the wide areas certainly wouldn’t hurt. This is where Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby comes in.

The Frenchman, who can play on either wing, has impressed in the Bundesliga with 12 goals and seven assists in 25 appearances. The club are said to be ready to let him go if their assessment is met, with Arsenal linked.

The strongest starting XI in 2022/23 : Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Tielemans; Saka, Odegaard, Diaby; Isaac.
