P&O Cruises launches ‘we are not P&O Ferries’ campaign to end confusion

People mix up P&O Ferries and P&O Cruises. Now the cruise line is launching a multi-site online campaign in a bid to set itself apart from its quasi-namesake.

It is easy to see why the confusion has arisen. They are two travel companies with very similar names, but that’s where the similarities end.

Not only have they been separate organizations for over 20 years, but P&O Cruises also claims that it is Britain’s largest cruise line and is part of Carnival Corporation & plc. One of the first things you see when you visit the P&O Cruises website is an unmissable pop-up window.

The pop-up appears to serve as a warning with an exclamation mark next to it, saying, “As Britain’s favorite cruise line, your loyalty, advocacy and support have always meant the world to us. P&O Cruises has been part of Carnival Corporation & plc for over 20 years and has no connection with P&O Ferries.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved. However, rest assured that our cruises are business as usual and our crew look forward to welcoming you on board soon.”

A video of P&O Cruises that has been viewed nearly 10,000 times on Twitter appears in a post captioned: “This is us, P&O Cruises.” The 30-second video features the following caption: “Proudly part of Carnival Corporation & plc.”

The video begins with a voiceover saying, “We got a lot of messages last week. Some people have confused us with another company.

“Our names may both start with P&O, but that’s where the similarity ends. P&O Cruises is Britain’s largest cruise line.

“We are part of Carnival Corporation & plc and have been for 20 years. We have six ships and our newest ship Arvia will join the fleet in December 2022 to be our sunny ship.

“Our incredible crew takes pride in welcoming our guests on board, providing unforgettable vacations, every time, anywhere in the world.”

P&O Ferries has come under scrutiny after bosses fired 800 workers without notice in a pre-recorded video call.
