Guwahati, 20 April (UNI) The electoral campaign for the 60 seats in the Guwahati municipality ended on Wednesday evening. More than 7.96 lakh voters will exercise their right to vote on April 22 to elect sixty society members, half of whose seats are reserved for women. The counting of votes will take place on April 24. The Assam State Election Commission has postponed the polling and counting dates for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election after the BJP, Congress and AGP requested a postponement of the dates due to of the Rongali Bihu festival. The ruling BJP has been campaigning massively in all parts of Guwahati city with all its top political leaders including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressing campaign rallies in different parts of the city. The Assam State Election Commission has ordered an investigation against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly violating the polling code of conduct while campaigning for the municipal elections. The order came after the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) filed a complaint with the state polling committee alleging that the chief minister breached the model code of conduct by announcing concessions to landless residents. from Guwahati.
