TRINIDAD and Tobago suffered a 10-0 thrashing against Mexico in their final game of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.

The loss meant TT finished the tournament winless with losses to Panama (5-1), Nicaragua (4-0) and Mexico (10-0).

The top three teams from the Concacaf tournament will qualify for the 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India in October.

In the ninth minute, Grecia Pineda opened the scoring for Mexico. After a corner, Pineda hit a tame volley just inside the penalty area which should have been easily handled by TT keeper Sadiel Antoine.

Antoine, trying to catch the ball over his head, let the ball slip through his hands and into the goal.

Although Mexico pinned TT deep in their own half, TT kept their form defensively.

TT spent most of the opening period in their own half and Mexico continued to attack.

In the 26th minute, Layla Sirdah made it 2-0 for the Mexicans.

Sirdah hit a powerful left-footed shot from 25 yards out that continued to beat down Antoine’s diving effort.

TT’s Trischell Charles attempted a shot almost halfway which didn’t bother Mexican keeper Carmen Lopez.

Valerie Vargas’ free kick in the 36th minute from over 25 yards went just over the crossbar as Mexico kept the pressure on TT.

A minute later, Antoine made a quality diving save to deny Mexico another goal.

TT chained a few passes through midfield in the 42nd minute but it didn’t turn into a chance on goal.

Mexico found the back of the net just before the half-time whistle in the 44th minute.

Following a corner, the ball fell on Sofia Jimenez who hit the ball into the back of the net.

Mexico was even more clinical by adding seven more goals in the second half.

In the 57th minute, TT hit Mexico on the counterattack but Charles’ effort was weak and Lopez made a comfortable save.

In the 63rd minute, Mexico made it 4-0 through Brenda Vega, before Vega scored again in the 65th minute.

The goals continued to flow as Maribel Flores made it 6-0 in the 73rd minute and two minutes later the same player scored straight from a corner.

Vega scored a header to make it 8-0 and scored again in the 84th minute.

Tatiana Flores completed the scoring in the 88th minute as the match ended 10-0.
