United Way of Stephens County reaches 92% of campaign goal | Community

Fundraising has been an overwhelming challenge over the past two years, United Way of Stephens County Director Helen Stewart said.

“As we near the end of this year’s campaign, we are thrilled with the support of our community to help us move closer to our campaign goal of $275,000,” said Stewart. “Many organizations and individuals rely on Centraide to be there for them, but without meeting our fundraising goals, we cannot meet all of their needs.

Year after year, United Way funds programs that provide community members with personal, educational and financial support. For example, United Way funds programs at Marie Detty Youth & Family Services, Duncan Area Literacy, Christians Concerned, Gabriel’s House and three senior centers, Douglass, Velma and Duncan. The programs of these organizations represent only a handful of the programs supported by Centraide.

“The collective impact of these efforts on the health, education and financial stability of our community is enormous,” Stewart said. “We are grateful to every individual, family, small business and society who has helped us get so close to our goal and who feel lucky to live in such a generous community. We have seen businesses and community organizations stepping up and can appreciate the many challenges and obstacles that businesses are facing in relation to the global pandemic.

Funds raised through the United Way campaign provide essential resources to 14 partner organizations who are then able to run more than 25 community programs in the Stephens County area.

“We would like to thank our Campaign Chair Janice Schornick and our Board of Directors, donors, volunteers and United Way partners for their tireless work to help us achieve our mission and support our local communities,” Stewart said. “Every donation to Centraide remains 99% local. If you have not yet contributed to this year’s campaign, please seriously consider making a donation today.

United Way of Stephens County hosts many events throughout the year. Upcoming events include Community Diaper Drive, Day of Caring, Book Drive for Readers and Leaders, and the Fifth Annual BBQ.
