Dar es Salaam. Vodacom Tanzania Plc launched the new season of its Digital Accelerator program yesterday as part of its efforts to empower start-ups in the country.

Known as the VodacomDigital Accelerator, the program empowers start-ups that have innovative solutions by helping them achieve their aspirations.

The launch of the new cohort follows the completion of the 2020-2021 group in the program.

Vodacom Tanzania Director for Digital and Value Added Services, Nguvu Kamando, said the company believes that innovation and entrepreneurship are key ingredients in achieving the goal of a strong digital economy. in Tanzania.

“As such, we are always on the lookout for collaborations and innovations that will help achieve this goal. We are rightly proud and dedicated to our collaboration with Smart Lab to manage the acceleration program for the benefit of innovative start-ups,” he said.

He said working alongside Smart Lab helps provide mentorship, technical assistance and overall support.

Graduated start-ups were able to raise additional funds from investors and complete product development. They were also able to develop their teams so they could perform faster and better.

The Accelerator program is aimed at startups operating in the fields of fintech, edutech, health, entertainment, tourism, agriculture, cybersecurity and e-commerce.

In addition to the aforementioned categories, the program is also looking for participants aged 18 and over. should have demonstrated traction between the Startup and Series A stages in the Tanzanian market, as well as those who have built a scalable product or service with a significant total addressable market and a defensible growth model.

The 2020/21 group finalists were Smart Class, an edtech platform; Hashtag Pools, an e-commerce operator; Ninsiimae-Dispensary and MyHiwhich handle health insurance services that were screened from an initial field of 500 applicants from 18 regions.

According to Kamando, for the new season, the selected start-ups will follow an initial program that includes mentorship from experienced Vodacom staff, Smart Lab staff and other respected business mentors. They will also receive technological and creative support to launch and grow their start-ups from Smart Lab – which is a leading technology and media company in Africa.

CEO and Founder of Smart Codes, Mr. Edwin Bruno, said the vision is to apply technology to make an impact in Africa.
