$4.2 million raised for GoFundMe ‘Freedom Convoy’ truckers’ campaign

The “Freedom Convoy 2022” GoFundMe Campaign has raised over $4.2 million in 11 days since its inception.

The fundraiser says “the days of political excesses are over” and asserts that the Canadian government is “implementing rules and mandates that are destroying the foundations of our businesses, industries and livelihoods.”

The campaign, which has more than 56,000 donors worldwide, says it “brings our fight to the doorsteps of our federal government and demands that they end all warrants against their people.”

The fundraiser, which has a goal of $5 million, says it will use the money raised to disperse it with its truckers. Funds will be spent to cover the cost of fuel and will be used to help with food and shelter if needed.

Truckers from across Canada began their journey earlier this week with the goal of creating a massive convoy to raise awareness and end pandemic warrants. Truckers and Canadians must demonstrate outside Parliament on January 28.

The hashtags #FreedomConvo2022 and #TruckersForFreedom have been trending on Twitter all week.

Since January 15, all cross-border truckers must be fully vaccinated. Canadian truckers must meet pre-entry, testing and quarantine requirements, while foreign truckers who are not fully vaccinated will be sent back to the United States.

According to organizers, “small businesses and homes are destroyed, people are mistreated and deprived of basic necessities to survive.” The GoFundMe campaign continues to say, “it is our duty as Canadians to end these warrants [sic].”

On Tuesday morning, $4,288,800 was raised for the “Freedom Convoy 2022”.

“It’s a small price to pay for our freedoms,” the campaign continues. “We thank you all for your donations and know that you are helping to restore this once beautiful country to what it was.”

A Twitter account who is an advocate for the “Freedom Convoy” initiative says the movement is the eighth most successful GoFundMe campaign in the history of the crowdfunding platform.

Daily Hive has contacted GoFundMe for confirmation and will update the story as soon as new information is shared.
