The head of jailed Samajwadi party, Azam Khan, request bail to campaign in UP
Samajwadi leader Azam Khan has applied to the Supreme Court for interim bail to campaign in Uttar Pradesh’s upcoming assembly elections.
In his plea, Mr. Khan said the state has “adopted all available means” to delay proceedings on his three other bail applications to ensure he remains incarcerated pending the Assembly elections. Fixed State to be held in Uttar Pradesh from February 10 to March 7 and cannot campaign for his party.
He also added that although he said he was able to secure bail in all other cases pending against him, proceedings in all three cases were “deliberately” delayed.
Mr Khan has been housed in Sitapur prison in Uttar Pradesh since February 2020 with numerous cases registered against him.
Elections for the 403 Assembly Constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 10 Polling in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 and 7 in seven stages. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
