KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Current kicked off its subscription campaign Tuesday, 816 Day, as a tribute to fans of the area code.
Payment of a deposit is the only way for fans to reserve their place for matches at the future stadium of the Current, the first and only stadium built for a professional women’s sports team.
The 11,500-seat stadium at Berkley Riverfront Park is expected to open in time for the start of the women’s soccer season in the spring of 2024. Groundbreaking is scheduled for October.
The team’s new stadium and training site at Riverside are important community assets at all levels, from hosting World Cup teams to providing the youth leagues with a place to to play.
“Where we are currently at the training center, there are three courts right now, two are for our use. We will be building four more for the youth,” said Allison Howard, president of Kansas City Current.
“This construction will be completed this spring. Then there are plans for six more youth pitches that will likely be developed in 2024. This whole area will be redeveloped, and it’s absolutely part of a community aspect redevelopment.
Those who register for tickets will be the first to deposit a deposit on September 13, a tribute to fans of the 913 area code.
Howard said the new stadium will offer a range of seating options, with ticket prices that will allow any fan to enter and have an enjoyable experience.
