Launch of a planting campaign in Swabi – Journal


SWABI: The district administration launched a monsoon tree planting campaign here the other day, with officials saying that thousands of saplings would be planted in all areas of the district to enhance its environment and natural beauty.

Additional Assistant Commissioner, Swabi, Qaiser Khan, Additional Assistant Commissioner, Topi, Adnan Mumtaz and Forest Department officials officially launched the campaign by planting saplings at Topi tehsil.

Officials said on the occasion that every citizen should participate in the tree planting campaign to prevent soil erosion and combat the effects of climate change occurring in the region.

Other speakers stressed that the forest department should play its part in tending the saplings to achieve the desired goals.

BREASTMILK: A march was held here the other day to educate people on the benefits of breast milk for children. The march was led by the district health officer, Dr Abdul Latif.

Women workers and members of civil society also participated in the march. Participants held signs and banners with awareness messages about the effectiveness of breastmilk.

A one-day seminar was also organized for this purpose by the departmental health directorate with the support of Unicef.

KILL: Syed Haroon Shah, 28, from the Swabi Khas union council died in a road accident here the other day.

Shah was returning home when his motorbike collided with a rickshaw. He was taken to the headquarters hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Meanwhile, a man allegedly shot dead his son, identified as Khalid Khan, during a domestic dispute in the village of Pabini here the other day.

The widow of the deceased when filing an FIR at Swabi town police station said her father-in-law Amir Nawab opened fire on her husband and he died instantly.
