ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland and Labrador, Sept. 07, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Kraken Robotics Inc. (TSX-V: PNG, OTCQB: KRKNF), Canada’s Ocean Company™, announces that its subsidiary PanGeo Subsea has completed the cable burial (DOB) along the EstLink 1 and 2 cables during an offshore campaign using PanGeo’s SeaKite ROTV equipped with the patented Sub-Bottom Imager™ (SBI). With a strong background in supporting underwater surveys for offshore wind and offshore energy, PanGeo has completed over 10,000 kilometers of wireline DOB surveys to date.

PanGeo supported marine survey provider Arctia Meritaito Ltd aboard the research vessel RV Mintis to perform the cable burial depth along the two interconnecting cables that connect the Finnish and Estonian power grids. The 350MW EstLink 1 was installed in 2006 and crosses the 75 km wide Gulf of Finland, reaching a maximum water depth of 100 m. EstLink 2 is a 650 MW, 145 km cable installed in 2013 and is approximately 70 km east of EstLink 1.

About the SBI and SeaKite
The SBI produces a 3D acoustic image from the outside of the cable down to a depth of 5 m below the seabed. As an acoustic system, the SBI is non-intrusive, allowing cables to remain fully operational during survey operations, an essential requirement for power transmission cables. The SBI also provides consistent vertical accuracy regardless of cable burial depth, enabling depth verification over multiple runs of the same cable section and monitoring of cable burial throughout the length of the cable run. life of a cable.

The SeaKite ROTV has an integrated SBI, which allows 3D acoustic surveys at speeds of up to 4 knots. Eliminating the need for an ROV to perform cable DOB provides the speed of data acquisition efficiency. Additionally, it allows the use of a much smaller survey vessel, reducing the overall daily operating cost of operations and reducing carbon emissions. By using a smaller vessel on site for a shorter period, this survey saved approximately 200,000 kg of carbon dioxide emissions.
