US Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee Launches Nationwide Campaign for 2022 Midterm Elections

This committee will be supported by state/district level campaign committees and advisory councils comprised of election research, media management, data management and AEPAC youth committees.

AEPAC President Mesfin Tegenu said:

“Last year in Virginia, we saw the power of Ethiopian Americans as voters. Our community helped install Glen Youngkin in the Governor’s Mansion. As the midterm elections approach, the million-strong diaspora in the United States will be a key feature for court candidates.

“Through the AEPAC National and State Committees, we will ensure that this community reaches out to those who are committed to supporting the century-old relationship between America and Ethiopia, and who can help reverse the damaging policies recently enacted by the Biden administration and opposing current efforts. to harm Ethiopia as HR 6600.”

AEPAC will monitor the results of the upcoming primaries and begin supporting candidates shortly thereafter, based on commitments to the AEPAC NECC policy platform of:

  • Calling on the TPLF to end its offensive in Afar and its remaining forces to commit to an unconditional ceasefire.
  • Recognize that the challenge of humanitarian assistance now extends well beyond Tigray to Afar and Amhara, with an estimated 9 million people in need of assistance in the three northern regions.
  • Fully support the National Dialogue Commission to ensure lasting peace.
  • Support efforts to end punitive sanctions against Ethiopia and reverse Ethiopia’s delisting from AGOA.

AEPAC’s campaign efforts will include recruiting and training dedicated campaign volunteers, assigning skilled election activists to lead state and district committees, conducting voter registration campaigns , voter education, planned campaign activity, organizing campaign rallies to support our candidates, organizing fundraising events to support AEPAC, and organizing Get Out The Vote campaigns.

The Ethiopian-American Public Affairs Committee is dedicated to promoting a positive and synergistic relationship between the United States and Ethiopia. AEPAC’s primary mission is to strengthen and enhance the century-old relationship between the United States and Ethiopia. AEPAC strives to build a strong partnership based on the common interests and mutual benefits of both countries.
